Half-naked cop in toilet sent for psychiatric assessment

-

ALOR STAR: A police inspector, who was found semi-naked inside a women’s toilet at a mall here on Monday, has been sent for psychiatric assessment.

Kedah police chief Datuk Asri Yusof said the officer, 32, was sent for psychiatric assessment after he refused to talk to investigators since his arrest on Monday.

“We have decided to send him for psychiatric evaluation as he refused to say a word since his arrest.”

He said police had yet to establish why he went into the women’s toilet, clad only in his underpants, at the time of the incident.

He said police were also waiting for the woman, who appeared in a viral video berating the suspect, to come forward and lodge a report.

Asri said the officer had been remanded under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after he tested positive for drugs.

A source said the suspect had a disciplinary record, but could not ascertain if it was drug-related.

Checks at the mall revealed that the incident took place on the same floor as a bowling alley and cinema.

The mall’s management, however, said they could not determine whether the woman in the video was a patron or a worker at the mall.

The officer, from Sarawak, was believed to be under the influence of drugs when he was arrested, clad only in his underpants, inside a toilet of a mall here, at 12.30am on Monday.

Responding to a distress call, a mobile patrol unit went to the location and nabbed him.

A crystal-like substance weighing 0.62g, believed to be syabu, was seized from him.

The video of the incident, which had gone viral on social media since Monday, showed a woman telling the person recording the video that the man had taken a photograph of her while she was in the toilet.
