1st Touch regain winning touch

-

AFTER a long wait, 1st Touch Assumption’s commitment to the game saw them lifting the Royal Selangor Club (RSC)-Milo Under12 International Football Sevens trophy at Bukit Kiara last Sunday.

The Butterworth-based side defeated Titan United from Subang Jaya 2-1 in the final after having beaten Harimau Mega FC of Johor Baru 1-0 in the semifinals.

1st Touch’s Mohd Danish Hazran, who scored both goals in the decider, was named Man of the Match while teammates Mohd Fakhur and Zamir Zain were awarded best goalkeeper and player of the tournament respectively.

Formerly known as Bintang Baru Assumption Football Academy, the team last won the tournament back-to-back in 2008-2009.

1st Touch Under-12 coach Roslan Aziz and the academy’s secretary Zainal Fitri said: “We were not favourites in the tournament as there were many other formidable academies, past champions and international teams. But the players were determined to wrest the title after having not won it for a long time,” said Roslan.

“This victory will certainly spur the other players in the academy to achieve success and have higher goals,” added Zainal.

The Masters category saw Penang Sports Club taking the title with a 2-1 victory over Maldives Soccer Mates in the final while TM Jones downed HTC FC 1-0 in the Grand masters decider.
