ALOR STAR: A nasi kandar restaurant in Jalan Seberang Perak here was slapped with a 14-day closure order after its workers were found processing roti canai flour on top of a sewerage cover behind the outlet.

The restaurant was also found to have utilised two-day-old used cooking oil to fry food.

The temporary closure order was also slapped on two nasi kandar outlets in Lebuhraya Darul Aman and Jalan Lencong Barat for failing to comply with hygienic regulations during an inspection by the Kedah Islamic Religious Department (JAIK) yesterday.

Jaik assistant director (Halal Management Division) Rosyadah Ramli said in its four-hour operation, the department inspected six nasi kandar outlets in the city.

“Out of the six outlets, three were slapped with immediate 14day closure order for failing to comply with regulations concerning hygienic practices.

“Among others, we found workers at one of the outlets processing roti canai flour on top of a sewerage cover at the back of the restaurant, and found cockroach droppings in the other premises.

“Some of the raw materials were not properly contained, exposing the ingredients to rats,” she said.

The operation was jointly undertaken with Kedah Health Department, the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry and Alor Star City Council.
