Building a compassionate nation

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The public is welcome to make infaq (donations) for the upcoming World #QuranHour and Merdeka #QuranHour.

Warisan Ummah Ikhlas Foundation chief executive officer Marhaini Yusoff said the “JomInfaq” programme would encourage people to be more compassionate toward others.

Among items that the public can donate are food, beverages, mats, umbrellas and items that will be useful during the programme.

“The theme ‘A Nation of Compassion’ is a call to action to love, give and help across the boundaries of religion and nation.

“On 9th Zulhijjah, we will hold an iftar and a feast after the Merdeka #QuranHour programme at 10.30pm,” Marhaini said.

She said food donations would be ample for a crowd of 2,000.

She also said the organiser was expecting 5,000 people to join in the event.

“We are expecting the attendance of university students, the homeless, Rohingya refugees and the international community.

“We also want to celebrate (the occasion with our) non-Muslim friends to share the spirit of togetherness.”

World #QuranHour will start at 8.30pm at Dataran Merdeka on Aug 31, and at selected mosques. It is in conjunction with the wuquf in Arafah, Mecca. Media Prima Bhd is a media partner for World #QuranHour.
