Rapid Rail to do more to make it a better ride for the disabled
KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd will hold discussions with disabled people’s associations to make Kuala Lumpur’s rapid transit system more disabled-friendly.
Rapid Rail chief executive officer Datuk Zohari Sulaiman said safety and comfort remained the company’s top priority, as it strove to become a world-class public transportation provider. “We will try our best to accommodate disabled people, apart from improving our services from time to time,” he said.
He was attending a programme with disabled students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kajang Utama (SMKKU) at the MRT Merdeka station here, yesterday.
On another matter, Zohari said the total ridership for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (MRT SBK) Line had surpassed the 7.4 million mark.
“On a daily basis, MRT receives an average of 100,000 passengers on weekdays.
“On weekends, we have an average of 140,000 passengers.
“Among the stations that receive the most passengers is the Bukit Bintang station, as it is close to the main shopping attractions in the city centre,” he said.
He said he expected the number of passengers to increase, thanks to the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games 2017.
“We are expecting a rise in the number of passengers throughout the KL Sea Games period.
“Commuters will also take advantage of the 50 per cent discount until Aug 31,” he said.
Later, 120 students from SMKKU took a ride on the MRT to the National Museum for a half-day visit.
