PAIN BARRIER

-

chances of even competing were bleak after falling and injuring himself while representing his team Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) during the Tour of Korea in June.

However, thanks to care, therapy and treatment received at the National Sports Institute he managed to recover in time and make it to Melbourne, Australia for the national team’s final phase of training.

During competition yesterday at Dataran Putrajaya involving nine rounds over a distance of 45 kilometres, Harrif clocked a time of 59:35s

“We will continue our efforts for the team event on Thursday and this success will definitely spur us on.

“It helps ease the burden of expectations on our shoulders because one target has already been achieved,” said Harrif.

Meanwhile Jupha Somnet bettered her 2015 Sea Games bronze result when she claimed the silver in the women’s criterium.

Despite being pushed by Thailand’s Jutatip Maneephan and being out of the position, behind Vietnamese Nguyen Thi That, Jupha was bent on finishing on the podium.

“The mistake was when I was behind Vietnam with 1km to go and Thailand came to push me from the left.”

“At that point, the wind was infront of me so I wasted a lot of energy.”

She vowed to do better in the road race, tomorrow, by winning the gold.
