Local scarf brand gets featured on CNN
KUALA LUMPUR: In business, people take all sorts of risks. Some make big investments, while others put themselves out on a limb — as did FashionValet co-founder, Malaysian Vivy Sofinas Yusof.
One evening last year, while accompanying Brunei princess Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah to her car after attending a FashionValet event in Bandar Seri Begawan, Vivy gathered her courage and asked the princess to collaborate with her on her scarf label, dUCk.
“The worst she can do is say ‘no’. (But) she smiled and didn’t say much. It was crazy.
“I never thought that was going to happen,” she said.
However, a few days later, the princess’s sister-in-law, Noorsurainah Tengah, contacted Vivy, telling her that the wife of Brunei Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah had agreed to collaborate with dUCk.
Princess Sarah then began brainstorming with Vivy on hijab design concepts, colours and fabrics for the Royal dUCk scarf line.
The third limited edition square scarf line by the brand after the Kaleidoscope and Alphabet series was then created to celebrate women.
The collaboration had pushed Brunei, better known as an exporter of oil and gas, into the sartorial spotlight, CNN reported.
The collection comprises four scarves designed with images of a wheel, diamonds, bees, the grid of a sports racquet and hydrangeas, the princess’s favourite flower.
The scarves, tagged at RM600 each, come in red, pink, ash blue and peach. It was made available for pre-order on fashionvalet.com.
“On the first day of the threeday pre-order period leading up to the launch, the (FashionValet) site crashed.
“People were excited because it’s not (every day that a) Brunei princess would collaborate with a fashion brand,” Vivy said.
