DAYANG GLAD TO BE RECOGNISED
Singer Dayang Nurfaizah is thrilled with her four nominations at Anugerah Planet Muzik 2017 next month. SYAHIRAH MOKHTAZAR has the story
AWARD-WINNING songstress Dayang Nurfaizah could not be happier. Dayang, 36, is in the running for four Anugerah Planet Muzik (APM) 2017 awards: Best Female Artiste, Most Popular Artiste, Best Song and Most Popular Song (both for Lelaki Teragung).
“I am thankful and touched to know that my hard work in the music industry is recognised,” she said.
“I do not have any expectation as awards shows are full of surprises. APM is an awards show where votes come in from the professional jury and the public, so it is definitely a big deal for me.”
Lelaki Teragung bagged the Best Song Award at TV3’s 31st Anugerah Juara Lagu earlier this year.
The list of APM 2017 nominees was recently made known to the media.
In the Most Popular Artiste and Most Popular Song categories, Dayang is competing against Malaysian singer-actress Ayda Jebat. Ayda is also up for four nominations, with the other two being Best Song Collaboration and Social Media Icon.
When asked how she felt competing against younger artistes like Ayda, Dayang said: “I look at it positively. To me, it is all about healthy competition.
“Ayda has a huge fan base and is big in the music scene,” she said, adding that she was proud to be nominated in the same categories as Ayda.
“I love seeing young talent bloom and grow. As seniors, we need to support and root for them.
“Whether I walk away with any award is immaterial. To me, it is a blessing to be nominated. It is an honour.”
She is busy selecting songs for her solo concert at Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore slated for Jan 1.
APM is an awards show for artists engaged in the Malay and Indonesian language music world, honouring artistes from Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. The event will be held at the MES Theatre at Mediacorp in Singapore on Oct 14.
