New FGV chairman says he will help add value to firm
FELDA Global Ventures Holdings Bhd’s (FGV) newly-appointed chairman Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid will hold a preliminary meeting with the directors and senior management team at Menara Felda today.
While Azhar, who was appointed to helm FGV by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak last week, will officially report to work today, the conglomerate in a statement said acting chairman Tan Sri Dr Sulaiman Mahbob would continue discharging his duties.
Azhar said he would do his best to turn around FGV, restore confidence and add value to the company.
“I also want to make sure that we resolve the issue related to the chief executive officer (CEO) as quickly as possible,” he was quoted as saying.
Sources said embattled FGV president and CEO Datuk Zakaria Arshad, who had been suspended by the board since June, could be cleared of any wrongdoing and was set to return to work soon. They said the independent domestic inquiry appointed by the board had finished proceedings with Zakaria and an announcement was expected to be made today.
“All eyes will be on the board of FGV tomorrow (today) and it could make an announcement on Zakaria as well as three other company officials. Zakaria is expected to be cleared of any wrongdoing and the board wants him to stay on until year end,” said one source.
