LRT trains carry anti-graft messages
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd yesterday launched their first two light rail transit (LRT) train coaches featuring anti-corruption messages.
The decals, which read “Big or Small We Will Catch You”, pasted inside and outside of the coaches, would serve as a reminder to the public that they should not indulge in corruption-related activities, said MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad.
The posters on ways to report corruption, the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 and the effects of corruption on a culprit and his family were placed inside the coaches.
“This is our first-ever initiative using public transportation as a platform to spread anti-corruption messages. It is estimated that more than 250,000 commuters will read or come across these messages daily; this is equivalent to five million people monthly.”
Dzulkifli said the posters were pasted without incurring any rental charges from Prasarana.
This, he said, showed Prasarana’s seriousness in combating corruption.
Dzulkifli said this during the launch of the coaches at the LRT Bank Rakyat-Bangsar station here yesterday.
The messages will be on display until June next year.
Prasarana president and group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmi Abdul Aziz said the company planned to increase the number of train coaches in the near future, and display anti-corruption decals on other assets, including buses in Penang and Kuantan.
Dzulkifli announced programmes to commemorate MACC’s 50th anniversary, to be held on Oct 1, and that MACC had decided to make October “AntiCorruption Month”.
On a separate issue, Dzulkifli said MACC was waiting for instructions from the AttorneyGeneral’s Chambers over its intention to sue Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for defaming the commission.
