M-cyclist killed in crash with truck

-

JOHOR BARU: Police have identified the charred remains of a motorcyclist who was killed when his machine crashed into the rear of a food truck that had stopped near the Kempas toll plaza.

Johor Baru Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Taib Ahmad said the victim was a 20-year-old man from Felda Bukit Batu, Kulai, known only as Kamarul.

He was killed when his Honda C100B crashed into the rear of a Daihatsu Rigid truck at Km8.3 of the North-South Expressway near the Kempas toll plaza at 3.25pm on Saturday.

A 43-year-old bun seller who was driving the truck was unhurt.

“The crash caused a fire upon impact. “The motorcyclist died from severe head injuries and third-degree burns,” Taib said.

Initial checks showed that the motorcyclist was heading for Johor Baru from Batu Pahat.

“The truck driver had stopped his vehicle by the side of the expressway because the vehicle’s engine had heated up.

“He switched on the emergency lights, but did not put up any traffic cone or sign.

“After five minutes, the motorcyclist coming from the same direction crashed into the truck’s rear,” Taib said.

The burnt motorcycle and truck were seized for Puspakom checks.

The case is being investigated under the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
