JERLUN: Shazwani Mohd Kyairi was shocked to see her family home in Kodiang town here inundated early yesterday morning.

Fortunately, the Form Three student of SMK Tunku Bendahara said her text and revision books were spared from the floods.

She has no time to waste and resumed her revision at the flood relief centre in SK Kodiang Lama, as she has two weeks left before her Penilaian Tahap 3 (PT3) examination.

Shazwani, 15, and her family are among 700 flood victims from three districts in Kedah seeking shelter at relief centres following continuous downpour over the past two days.

She said she was fast asleep when her mother woke her up at 2.30am yesterday.

“By 7am, we were advised to move to the relief centre,” she told the New Straits Times.

She said the flood did not dampen her spirit to do her best in PT3.

There are 32 people from eight families were seeking shelter at the relief centre as at 6pm yesterday.

As at 4pm yesterday, the number of flood evacuees in the state had rose to 700 people compared with 366 on Thursday.

State Civil Defence Force Disaster Management Committee coordinator Captain Saifuddin Abdullah said Kuala Muda was the worst affected district, with 505 evacuees.

He said victims were seeking shelter at SK Bukit Kechil in Bukit Meriam, Dewan Kampung Jilid 8 in Bujang and Dewan Kampung Sungai Pial in Merbok.
