TEACHER WINS YET ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL AWARD
He has won 3 other international awards
MALAYSIAN English teacher Mohd Sirhajwan Idek could not contain his excitement at winning the prestigious International Innovation and Entrepreneurship Excellence in Teaching Award 2017.
Sirhajwan, 29, beat nine other finalists from the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Germany, Canada, Denmark and Colombia.
The award ceremony, held at Novancia Business School Paris in France, was organised by the Academic Conference and Publishing International. It was held on Thursday and Friday.
“This is a precious award for my country as it shows that our system of education is on a par with developed countries, and that we are being recognised at the international level,” Sirhajwan said.
The teacher from Keningau Vocational College, Sabah, had previously won three other international teaching awards: the Macmillan Teachers at My Heart last year, as well as the Express Publishing IATEFL Scholarship and National
Teacher Icon Award this year.
He was also a Top 50 finalist for the Global Teacher Prize 2017.
“I submitted my case history using the concept of Project-Based Learning for students to develop and execute their project ideas that enable them to venture into innovation and entrepreneurship. I made it to the first and second round, and the Top 10 finalists.
“Finally, I made it to the Top 3 before being declared the winner.
“I feel so thrilled since this is an international competition.
“It shows that no matter where you come from or who you are, nothing can stop you from realising your dreams and conquering the world.” Dmitry Shaytan from Russia was placed second, while Cindy Gilbert from the US and David Gibson from the UK placed third.
