Pangkor Dialogue draws on inside info to tackle global challenges
THE Pangkor Treaty, signed between the British and the sultan of Perak in 1874, ignited the fight for independence that eventually came to fruition in 1957.
The Pangkor Dialogue explores the starting point of our future, and the future belongs to those who see possibilities before they become obvious.
Pangkor will one day become the focal meeting point where business and political leaders get together and discuss ideas for a better tomorrow.
The Pangkor Dialogue, held on Sept 11 and 12, aims to inspire sustainable economic growth in the region.
It is one of the few dialogues in the world that is promoted by a state government.
It is a platform where inside information is shared to find solutions to challenges faced by the region.
The outcome of the dialogue provides recommendations for stakeholders.
One of the stakeholders is the Education Ministry as environmental education is expected to be introduced in kindergarten, primary schools, secondary schools and universities by 2019.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said a draft would be presented to the cabinet for approval by next year.
The proposed curriculum will address environmental pollution, and this year’s theme, “Making the future: Innovative pathways to sustainable development”, is timely.
