HEALTHY food is good food, simply cooked to bring out its flavour and beautifull­y presented to delight the senses. This starts with choosing the best vegetables and fruits, then preparing them with an eye to preserving their inherent colours, textures and nutrients.

Eating moderate amounts of a wide range of foods, especially fresh seasonal produce and grains that have not been too refined and over processed, is the key to a healthy diet.

Rather than count calories, fat, grammes, or carbohydra­tes, simply focus on keeping your diet constantly varied and rich in fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains and legumes.

If consuming these foods are the first priority of your diet each day, you will find that a healthy balance of other foods naturally follows. The food you prepare should be healthy, nourishing and enjoyable.

Today, I want to talk about something very simple: water. Children need plenty of water to stay hydrated and healthy. Water makes up more than half of a child’s weight, and a steady supply is necessary to keep the body working properly. Dehydratio­n, even if only mild, can cause tiredness, headaches, lack of concentrat­ion, reduced mental performanc­e and dry skin.

It can be challengin­g to get children to drink enough water because most children prefer the sweet taste of juice or fizzy drinks. Teaching children why drinking plenty of water is so important may encourage them to consume more, and showing them fun ways to drink water can make learning about water more interestin­g.
