MOBILE CLINICS IN SELANGOR
Selangor sultan launches Wakaf Selangor Muamalat, selected hospitals’ joint health services
SULTAN of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah yesterday launched the Wakaf Selangor Muamalat mobile clinic at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque.
The mobile clinic is a collaborative effort between Wakaf Selangor Muamalat and selected hospitals.
Wakaf Muamalat Selangor chairman Tan Sri Dr Abdul Rahman Arshad said via this collaboration, the Islamic endowment body would provide modified vehicles to be used as mobile clinics, while the hospitals involved would provide the manpower and medicines.
“Wakaf Selangor Muamalat has set up three mobile clinics in Selangor and Kelantan. We are planning to have more mobile clinics in the future.
“Two of them are in collaboration with KPJ Damansara, KPJ Selangor Specialist Hospital and KPJ Perdana in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, while the other is in collaboration with the Beacon International Specialist Centre, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
“Each clinic operates at a predetermined location and occasionally visits other areas on an ad hoc basis.”
Rahman said the mobile clinics provided blood pressure and blood sugar level examination, vision and physical tests, and consultation.
He said the mobile clinics had been operating in several districts in Selangor.
The clinics also provided healthcare services to flood victims in Gua Musang, Kelantan, in 2014 and 2015, he added.
Wakaf Muamalat Selangor is a charity fundraising programme that was launched on Sept 27, 2012.
Rahman said the programme, a joint venture between Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd and Perbadanan Wakaf Selangor, aimed at being the charitable arm for the bank’s customers and the public.
“Wakaf Selangor Muamalat has contributed RM8,808,784.30 for education and healthcare sectors. Funds are used to upgrade schools and provide them with vans and projectors. As for the healthcare sector, the funds are used to equip mobile clinics and to buy dialysis machines, nitrogen storage tanks and medical equipment.”
Rahman said the value of wakaf funds would be expanded through investments.
“Bank Muamalat, through its branch network in Malaysia, has accumulated and managed wakaf funds along with the Selangor Wakaf Corporation.
“Individual donors are eligible for a seven per cent tax deduction from their aggregate income, while corporations are eligible for a 10 per cent tax deduction.”
