Tanjung Bungah rep says ex-PM only making use of Pakatan Harapan

TANJUNG Bungah assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu has revealed that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s presence in Pakatan Harapan hastened his decision to leave DAP. He was quoted in an English daily as saying that the former prime minister was a contributing factor for him to leave, aside from him being “no longer in line with the party leadership’s policies”.

Teh said Dr Mahathir was the cause of many problems the country and people were facing.

“He comes in without making apologies, and he now leads the opposition. In the past, he didn’t care about the opposition but he is making use of it now.”

Teh went on to say that DAP, along with PKR and Parti Amanah Negara (PAN), were already on the right track.

He also questioned Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM)’s ideology.

“It is just about removing someone from office. What comes next?

“It doesn’t have a clear ideology nor a clear direction for the nation,” he was quoted as saying.

He said there were DAP veterans who disagreed with the new pact but did not name who they were.

Teh is not the only DAP member who has cited Dr Mahathir as the contributing factor for them to leave the party.

Former DAP life member Dr Shamsher Singh Thind left in December, citing loss of faith in the party leadership.

Citing a few excerpts from Lim Kit Siang’s and Dr Mahathir’s blogs, Shamsher had then said he could write a thesis on the nature and extent of the allegations that Lim and other prominent opposition leaders had made against Dr Mahathir and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the past.

“From what I see, either Lim lied about Dr Mahathir and Muhyiddin, or he has no problem working hand in hand with those who abused their power and who were corrupt in the past. Whichever view is adopted, the point that I want to prove is that Lim has lost his credibility,” he was quoted as saying.

Shamsher had also been critical of the party leadership and its decisions to hold hands with Dr Mahathir, going as far as labelling Dr Mahathir a “snake” and a “pimp”.
