INVESTIGATORS probing a high-profile assault case may have inadvertently found more dirt on the individual that they had bargained for. Sources close to investigations on the personality revealed that authorities may make use of preventive laws, including the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) and also utilising the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AMLA), against the suspect, who is 29year-old.

Another startling revelation claimed that investigators have also linked the man to various criminal activities, dating back to 2009.

The man carries honorific titles, which he received between 2012 and 2015.

Sources told the New Straits Times that the man had in the past been investigated for involvement in serious crimes, including causing injury and robbery, as well as drug abuse.

“Checks on the man’s background revealed that he had been the subject of investigation in at least 10 cases.

“The first was in 2009, for drug abuse.

“He was also arrested in 2013, under Section 324 of the Penal Code (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), and at another time for robbery,” said the source.

Another source, who was also aware of the cases linked to the men, told the NST that investigations against the suspect, never reached the courts.

“All these cases were somehow later classified as ‘No Further Action’, after investigators submitted their completed investigation papers,” said the source.

Sources said the previous case files revealed that the robbery case had possible ties to illegal money-lending activities.

It is believed that police are revisiting this angle in their investigations.

“Investigations have also branched out into establishing his links with Ah Long activities and money laundering and we may go use POCA and AMLA against him.”
