‘Datuk Seri’ in Rela assault case tests positive for drugs

-

KUALA LUMPUR: A 29-year old man with the title “Datuk Seri”, who allegedly assaulted three People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) members, has tested positive for drugs.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the suspect was under the influence of drugs when he surrendered himself to the police at Ampang Jaya district police headquarters on Monday.

“His urine test showed positive for drugs,” Noor Rashid said at the Deepavali celebration at the city police contingent headquarters yesterday.

Noor Rashid said the suspect also had a record of drug offence.

Police are investigating whether he was under the drug influence when he assaulted the Rela trio last week.

On claims that the suspect possessed a gun, Noor Rashid said police found no evidence, but if it was true that he had a gun licence, the inspector-general of police would take action to revoke his licence.

Last Friday, the Datuk Seri was involved in the assault of three Rela personnel — Ranbo Lee, 27, Jackie Leong, 21, and Melvin Cheong, 19 — when they asked him to move his Toyota Vellfire, which was obstructing traffic.

In the 6.30am incident, which happened near Kau Ong Yah Temple in Ampang, Lee suffered bruises and swelling on his left eye.

It is also understood that Leong was kicked and Cheong was hit on the back of his head.

The Datuk Seri was said to have offered RM10,000 to each of the victims to withdraw their repolice ports. The offer was allegedly made via a middleman.

Police are investigating the man for causing hurt and obstructing public servants from discharging their duties, under Section 324 and Section 186 of the Penal Code.

He is remanded until tomorrow.
