Car workshop activities irk Puchong residents

-

RESIDENTS in Taman Kandan Lama, Puchong, want the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) to act against an allegedly illegal automobile workshop in their neighbourhood which runs 24 hours.

They complained that, apart from having to face loud noise on a daily basis, they are also forced to breathe air polluted by car spray-painting activities.

Jaggit Kaur, 24, whose house is located near the workshop, claimed the workshop had been operating illegally.

“Our biggest concern is that the workshop management has been spray-painting cars by the roadside.

“We have been inhaling polluted air and we fear this situation will affect our health.

“Some of my family members including myself, have been suffering from frequent breathing problems.

“Can such an auto workshop be allowed to operate in a residential area?”

She urged the authorities concerned to act against the operator as well as the landowner.

Jaggit added that the workshop customers’ cars would be parked by the roadside, including in front of neighbours’ houses, which caused much inconvenience.

She also said that the workshop had managed to continue to operate for about four years now, despite numerous complaints filed with the local council.

ACTIONLINE:

MPSJ said that an investigation conducted following the complaint revealed that the workshop had been operating without a valid licence and that the premises was on government land.

Its corporate and strategic management deputy director, Azfarizal Abdul Rashid, said the local council had issued the workshop operator a warning notice, followed by a compound summons of not more than RM1,000 for operating illegally and causing disturbance to the residents.

He said the compound was issued under the Licensing of Trades, Businesses and Industries (MPSJ) By-law 2007.
