Police nab trio after drug trafficking video clip goes viral
PETRA JAYA: Police have arrested three men in connection with a video clip showing alleged drug trafficking in broad daylight, which went viral on social media.
The suspects, aged between 23 and 37, all with criminal records for committing drug-related offences, were picked up by police yesterday.
Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Superintendent Sahar Abdul Latiff said police seized 504 Nospan pills from the youngest of the suspects.
“Acting on a public tip-off on the video clip, allegedly taken by the roadside near Kampung Sin Sin, the department deployed a team (of police officers) and found two men behaving suspiciously at the scene.
“Both men, aged 34 and 37, were apprehended and urine tests showed they tested positive for methamphetamine.
“Investigations showed the two suspects had previous drug-related offences,” said Sahar yesterday.
The arrest of the two suspects led the team to a botanical garden near the old State Legislative Assembly Complex here, the same day.
“The last suspect was arrested at the second location. The police team found 37 packets of Nospan pills on him.
“Preliminary checks showed the third suspect had been arrested three times for committing the same offence since 2015,” Sahar said.
All three suspects, he said, were arrested under Section 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse, which carries a maximum two years’ jail and a fine of not more than RM5,000, or both, if found guilty.
The 28-second video clip shows a group of men allegedly selling drugs by the roadside near Kampung Sin Sin here.
A customer in a white Perodua Myvi and a motorcyclist are seen stopping by to get their supply of drugs.
On a related matter, Sahar said 32 people were arrested with 82.28g of syabu and 0.53g of cannabis between January and last month.
He said 15 people were arrested last year for committing offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Poisons Act 1952.
“A total of 21.44g of syabu, 97 Erimin 5 pills and 10 Nospan pills were seized last year.”
