POLICE have nabbed a married couple following the death of their 1-yearold daughter after suspecting it could be due to foul play.

The parents, aged 21 and 29, had taken their unconscious child to a clinic at 12.40am yesterday.

The victim was said to have fallen off a swing.

Following checks, the doctor discovered the victim had sustained severe head injuries. Due to the severity of the injuries, the case was referred to Sungai Buloh Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Suspecting something was amiss, the doctor lodged a police report.

District police chief Superintendent Lim Bak Phai said the parents claimed their daughter was unconscious when they reached their apartment unit in Bukit Beruntung.

At that time, they claimed, the child’s body was covered with a comforter.

The victim, who was the couple’s second child, stayed at the unit with her grandfather when her parents went to work.

“A post-mortem revealed the victim sustained bruises all over her body and a wound on the head. The cause of death was head injury due to blunt force trauma,” said Lim. “The injuries sustained are not consistent with one falling off a swing.”

He said the parents, who worked as a trader at a wet market and a waitress, were picked up at 3pm yesterday to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
