THE opposition’s accusation that the government is selling off the country's sovereignty to China is “illogical, stupid and pathetic”, Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Najib Razak said.

In expressing his disappointment over the opposition’s allegations, Najib said he felt angry with all the lies by the opposition.

He said this in relation to several opposition leaders, including Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who claimed that Najib’s embrace of China in recent years had led to an erosion of the country’s sovereignty.

“They (opposition) said we are selling the (country’s) sovereignty. Kepala bapak kau (to mean stupid fool). Sorry lah (for using) harsh words because it’s illogical.

“Where is the loss of sovereignty? You think we are stupid? We are not stupid, you are. I had never seen such (a) pathetic (reason for) lying to Malaysians.

“Don’t lie and don’t play games with Malaysians. I am angry because you are spreading lies,” he said in his speech at the MCA general assembly here.

He said the opposition’s claim that Malaysians couldn’t enter the Kuantan Industrial Park was a “stupid claim”.

Therefore, he urged the public not to support the opposition.

“Even at Forest City (in Johor), they made up many stories. Those are all reclaimed land. Not Johor’s land but reclaimed land. Of course we sell overseas... some locals and some overseas.”

The prime minister also took a swipe at Dr Mahathir, saying that during the latter’s tenure, he had imprisoned many opposition leaders.

Dr Mahathir was the former prime minister, but is now working with Pakatan Harapan, which includes his former nemesis DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang and jailed opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“This country cannot be led by a 92-year-old man,” he said, referring to Dr Mahathir.

“Lim had said that Dr Mahathir is the source of all of the country’s problems. He put Lim and others in jail under (now abolished) ISA (Internal Security Act).

“How many people have I put (in jail) under ISA? Zero. I’m the one who repealed ISA. During Op Lalang, more than 100 people were detained.

“Dr Mahathir said he had to listen to the police. But when has he ever listened to other people? All of his deputies (deputy prime ministers) had problems except him because he is perfect,” Najib said.
