No stopping Azizulhasni

-

WORLD champion Azizulhasni Awang is expected to compete through the pain barrier in the World Cup series in Manchester this weekend.

Azizulhasni’s resilience stems from the fact that the cyclist refuses to give up as he wants to pick up points in the individual sprint event to reinforce his position for the World Championships in the Netherlands in February.

The keirin specialist is ranked World No 22 in the latest Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) standings with 1,140 points.

The top 20 ranked countries and the top 10 cyclists will make the cut for the world meet.

Malaysia are currently ranked 14th with 2,529 points with three events left in the World Cup.

On Sunday, Azizulhasni was in action in the sprint event in Poland despite being in pain a day after being involved in an accident during the keirin event where he injured his left ankle.

“During the warm up session, I felt pain but I decided to take part.

“I am happy with the time I clocked even though I did so with an injury,” said Azizulhasni.

“In Manchester, I hope to be in much better shape.

“I have confirmed my participation for keirin and the individual pursuit events though it all depends on how well I am able to recover from the injury over the next few days,” he said. Azlan Muhammad Zain
