Khazanah foundation deploys humanitarian aid
KUALA LUMPUR: Khazanah Nasional Bhd’s impact-based foundation Yayasan Hasanah (Hasanah) has deployed humanitarian aid and assistance to Penang, Kedah and Perak.
It is working through its civil society partner organisations, government agencies and government-linked companies (GLCs) Disaster Relief Network (GDRN) to provide immediate humanitarian relief and support for those affected by the floods in the three states.
Yesterday, Hasanah said the efforts included funding to support non-governmental organisations (NGOs), which were responding to the needs of flood victims in Penang by providing food and hygiene kits.
For this purpose, Hasanah had allocated an initial funding for Gabungan Bantuan Bencana Banjir NGO Malaysia to provide aid to 400 families, covering food, medical aid and hygiene kits to flood victims in Seberang Prai Utara and Seberang Prai Tengah, Penang.
The foundation is on standby to support the NGOs during the flood recovery phase, which will include the cleaning up and rehabilitation of homes, public amenities and facilities.
Hasanah is hosting the GDRN Operations and Coordination Centre (Ops Centre) at its office here.
Together with GDRN members, Ops Centre will ensure that the support provided by GDRN is coordinated with GLCs and the National Disaster Management Agency, and resources are optimised and efficiently deployed.
Hasanah managing director Shahira Ahmed Bazari said the foundation was working with organisations, including its partners that were operating in Penang.
“The safety of the people is priority.
“Therefore, we are doing our best to coordinate the resources that we have to help as many flood victims as we can.”
