Eco World team visits flood-hit areas

-

GEORGE TOWN: The floods in Penang have left some homeless and many in need of basic necessities.

Heeding the call for aid, Eco World Development Group Bhd, through the Eco World Foundation volunteers, has rendered its assistance to the victims.

Led by Eco World Foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, the team of 40 volunteers visited two flood-stricken areas — Pulau Aman and SK Bertam Indah — and distributed food items and basic necessities, such as blankets and diapers, to the victims.

“It has been a challenging time for Penang. The foundation is happy to assist those affected by the floods. As a responsible corporate citizen with developments in Penang, we are fulfilling our corporate social responsibility by reaching out to those in need,” said Lee.

The chairman, who visited residents of the fishing village of Pulau Aman, said several homes were partially destroyed by the storm and floods, and Eco World had pledged to help the villagers repair their homes.

He said the developer was assessing the situation in Pulau Aman and would do its best to help in any way possible.

“We will do our best to help.” Apart from the 100-strong villagers in Pulau Aman, the volunteers also visited 500 victims at a temporary relief centre in SK Bertam Indah.

Lee and the volunteers spent some time there distributing aid.

“This is the least that we can do to help lift the spirits of flood victims who have had to abandon their homes,” said Lee.

The Eco World team also distributed aid in other areas.

They sent water tankers to Paya Terubong and provided aid to residents of the Gan En Zhi Jia old folks home.

Lee said the Eco World team would continue to assist flood victims so that they could get back on their feet as soon as possible.
