Don’t smear Dzulkifli’s name, says Zahid
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged the public not to hurl allegations against Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad, who has been accused of having an extramarital affair.
Zahid said this in response to a supplementary question by Puchong member of parliament Gobind Singh Deo, who asked what action would be taken over the viral videos purportedly showing Dzulkifli having an affair with a married woman.
“The al- legations must not turn into accusations.
“It would be better if we let him serve his duties as the chief commissioner.
“Do not assassinate his character.
“If it was him in the video, I will submit the case to the AttorneyGeneral’s Chambers to investigate and start legal proceedings if police reports have been made,” Zahid said at the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.
He said he could not confirm whether it was Dzulkilfli in the viral video, adding that the video’s authenticity was still being verified.
The viral videos on Dzulkifli’s alleged extramarital affair first emerged on social media.
Dzulkifli has since denied the allegations and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said police were investigating the case under Section 498 of the Penal Code, which refers to the offence of enticing a married woman with intent to have illicit intercourse.
If found guilty, a person could be imprisoned up to two years or fined, or both.
