BLAME IT ON SEX PILLS
National muay thai exponent provisionally suspended
ANATIONAL muay thai exponent is now serving a provisional ban after testing positive for diuretics — from consuming sex pills bought on the Internet prior to the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games.
Malaysian Muay Thai Association president Datuk Muhd Shahnaz Azmi confirmed yesterday that one of their exponents had tested positive prior to the Sea Games.
“For the time being, we will not reveal the identity of the athlete as we are still waiting for his B sample results,” said Shahnaz.
“The athlete was originally registered for the Sea Games but was then replaced and did not compete after testing positive at a pre-Sea Games competition.”
Shahnaz added that the exponent was called for a hearing with the national body after the failed drug test.
“The athlete admitted that he took male sex pills bought online. His ignorance caused him to fail the test.
“The pills he took are also for weight loss. I don’t think the athlete needed to lose weight as he has an ideal physique having fought around 300 bouts.”
Shahnaz disclosed that the Kelantan-born fighter, who is well known, is provisionally suspended until the result of the B sample, which will be tested at the Wada-accredited lab in New Delhi, is determined later this month.
“Muay thai is a sport that is recognised by the International Olympic Committee and we are very strict about this. Any exponent found guilty of doping will face action.
“According to Wada, the athlete could face a ban of up to four years,” said Shahnaz.
This is the third doping case involving national athletes so far this year after diver Wendy Ng and weightlifter Hafifi Mansor.
