DUMPED CABS HOGGING PARKING BAYS

-

A FLEET of abandoned taxis in the busy Chow Kit area of Kuala Lumpur has worsened the parking problem of office workers and other motorists.

Yeap Cheng Hoe, who said he worked in the area, claimed the taxis had been left in the parking lots on Jalan 1/64A for more than a year.

“I come here daily as my office is nearby, and I realised that these taxis have been in the parking bays for over a year now.

“There used to be a small taxi company nearby but it ceased operations a year ago. Since then, the taxis have been left in the parking lots.”

Yeap said some of the office workers in Chow Kit had to drive around for some time before finding a vacant parking bay.

“There are many offices and shoplots. Imagine having to find a parking spot, not just the workers but also customers.”

ACTIONLINE:

Kuala Lumpur City Hall public relations officer Hassan Azhari Abu Bakar said City Hall was just informed of the problem.

“DBKL has contacted the owner of the vehicles who said the taxi company has gone bankrupt.”

Azhari said City Hall had issued eight compounds and clamped four taxis in the area.

“The vehicle owner has been given a week to pay the summonses. If he does not pay, we will then tow away the taxis.”
