Gastronomy fair

TIFFIN is back bigger and better, this December, to reinvent the Malaysian food court experience.

Occupying a 2,787 square metre space in a disused warehouse, Tiffin Food Court is a threeweekend long thematic fiesta, held in collaboration with more than 30 vendors and partners.

The food fiesta aims to create the ultimate multi-layered, food court experience serving food from every continent, including hawker favourites and casual interpretations of haute cuisine; creative cocktails, music, parties and more.

The gastronomical fair will take place at the former Tamura Warehouse in Kelana Jaya, adjacent to the Western Digital building along the Damansara-Puchong Expressway.

Founder of Tiffin and Freeform, Adrian Yap, says Tiffin Food Court is their take on the quintessential Malaysian food court experience, be it in a shopping mall, a suburban medan selera or the sprawling late night wai sek kai that are almost our second homes.

“We want to carry on the legacy of congregating over good food and mate nights over communal tables, but reinterpret the experience to reflect our time and the change towards more global tastes and palates,” he adds.

Offering diners an opportunity to experience good food skillfully cooked with fresh and rare ingredients without the fuss of long-stemmed glassware and white table cloths, Dewakan’s Darren Teoh and Sitka Studio’s Christian Recomio will be collaborating and serving the casual versions of their innovative brand of haute cuisine for no more than RM25 a plate.

Malcolm Goh, Asian Food Channel host and executive chef of Define: food and fine dining purveyors, Pop Up Dining KL, will also host a weekend each.

Tiffin Food Court will also be brimming with a myriad of local cult favourites.

Authentic Penang hawkers dishing out perennially-beloved street food; casual gourmet burger experts KGB - Killer GourmetBurgers; ElMaiz Venezuelan Cuisine will be serving up exotic bites; try authentic Mainland Chinese flavours from Lucky Cuisine Restaurant and cakes and coffee by PulpbyPapaPalheta and artisanal ice cream parlour Softsrve, just to name a few.

Committed to classic Catalan cuisine, Marta’s Kitchen will plate paella and tapas out of a specially-built, traditional Spanish-style bar; and from across the causeway, the modern, playful Japanese raw bar Tanuki Raw, The World Is Flat with their revolutionary take on a traditionally staid food, and ramen outfit Sumo Bar Happy will each host pop-ups.

Food review experts in the local F&B scene, EatDrinkKL, will also join forces in curating a culinary list of up and rising restaurants over one weekend. Adding some tipple into the Tiffin Food Court mix, the Mezzanine Cocktail Bar will pour hand-crafted cocktails developed by The 2017 Bar Awards Kuala Lumpur Bartender of The Year CK Kho.

If familiar aromas alone won’t tempt a visit, Tiffin Food Court’s architectural display will certainly draw the crowd to the belly of the former electronics manufacturing warehouse. Artfully decked and
