MP’s claim not true, says AirAsia
KUALA LUMPUR: Low-cost carrier AirAsia Bhd has clarified that member of parliament (MP) Bung Moktar Radin’s claim was untrue.
Its chief executive officer, Aireen Omar, said the airline strove to offer low fares and this included the charges for its Kuala LumpurSandakan route.
“The claim that a one-way fare for flights between Kuala Lumpur and Sandakan costs RM2,000 is untrue because the average fare is RM213.
“Even during the peak season, when AirAsia operates flights with 100 per cent load factor, our highest fare is RM1,180, which remains the lowest in the market.”
She said there were no “hidden charges” as alleged by the MP, as AirAsia’s guests could choose how they wanted to fly and what products they wished to pay for. All fees and charges were clearly stated on AirAasia’’s website and mobile app, she added.
“In the spirit of concern for the welfare of the people, we wish to invite him (MP) to review the differences in facilities and services between airport terminals in Malaysia and look into customers’ opinions and feedback.
“The people in Sandakan are being forced to pay the same airport tax as travellers who use Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s services.”
Aireen said AirAsia practised an open policy and welcomed any MP who wished to collaborate to develop the tourism and travel industry.
“We invite them to meet us to have a dialogue, and give us an opportunity to explain our lowcost business model and its contributions to the industry.” Bernama
