Fitting into their babysitter roles
ACTION heroes they may be, but Polis Evo stars Shaheizy Sam and Zizan Razak are great babysitters too, fitting snugly into their newest roles on television.
Shaheizy and Zizan have become friends with two-year-old Jibrail Maulana Sham, their tiny co-star in Astro First Eksklusif’s Nov 30 telemovie, Baby Bro!
The two put to good use the nappy-changing, feeding and face-making talents they acquired as doting uncles to their infant nephews and nieces to get it on with Jibrail.
“We have been nappy-changing for a couple of years now,” said Shaheizy at a press preview of Baby Bro! at the Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), The Gardens, Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur recently.
“We’re young at heart and love to keep toddlers entertained,” said Zizan.
“What got us used to babies was the realisation that everyone had been a baby at one time. My mother stresses that, and calls me her baby boy,” said Shaheizy.
The biggest challenge was Jibrail’s sleeping time.
“Jibrail, or Baby D as we called him, had to take regular siestas and everybody had to respect his schedule,” said Shaheizy.
The actors were fortunate Jibrail was reasonably composed, but when he cried, only his mother could pacify him.
“We both tried to (pacify him) by singing the Polis Evo theme song, lullaby-style,” said Shaheizy.
“Baby D sensed that it was a crime song, so that just didn’t work,” added Zizan.
Nevertheless, Shaheizy said, Jibrail enjoyed seeing the actors doing “action hero” parodies.
“We dressed like doctors to change his nappy and then as bikers to dispose of it,” he said.
How often did they really change Jibrail’s nappy?
“Once,” said Zizan, adding that director Ghaz Abu Bakar did not include it in the telemovie.
“Ghaz felt that Jibrail’s mother always did it best,” said Shaheizy.
And how did they entertain Baby D?
“We just made funny faces,” said Shaheizy, who admitted Jibrail preferred him to Zizan.
“Sam’s baby face wins Baby D over hands down!” said Zizan.
The actors spent 12 hours with Jibrail over their two-week shoot in Putrajaya last May.
“We had eight days together. Now that it’s over, we’ll visit him since we’re friends,” said a pleased Zizan.
In Baby Bro! Shaheizy and Zizan play Joe and Sham who find Baby D in their car, and look after him until they find his mother. By Dennis Chua
