DAP branches urge RoS to probe into ‘lack of transparency’

-

PUTRAJAYA: Four DAP branches yesterday lodged a complaint with the Registry of Societies (RoS) here over an alleged lack of transparency in the party’s recent central executive committee (CEC) re-election.

The DAP delegates were from Asam Kumbang, Klang, Taman Murni Sepang and Sepang Putra.

The delegation headed by Asam Kumbang DAP deputy chairman Santokh Singh Gurdev Singh, questioned the votecounting process and the appointment of audit firm Grant Thornton.

He claimed that Grant Thornton did not follow procedures set by RoS in conducting the CEC.

“I don’t know if Grant Thornton has the experience in handling this. No delegates were allowed to witness the vote-counting process. No representatives from the candidates were allowed to witness the vote-counting process either,” Santokh said outside RoS’ headquarters.

He claimed that some votes had gone to deceased candidates, including the late DAP chairman Karpal Singh.

“We do not know who Grant Thornton is. They did not remove the names of candidates who had died like Karpal (Singh) and those who had left the party.”

Santokh claimed that the party leadership had blocked his access to the party’s official site on the list of candidates for its CEC re-election.

“Grant Thornton did not check if party members could access the official website. Why block me when I am an official party member for life.”

Urging RoS to investigate the audit firm, Santokh said they only wanted a “fair and transparent” party election.
