MALAYSIANS are invited to come and follow the proceedings at the Umno general assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here from Dec 5 to 9.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the assembly was not only opened to its three million members as the public was also welcomed.
“We want to show Malaysians that the party they have been supporting has carried out its responsibilities in line with the constitution,” he said here yesterday.
Tengku Adnan, who is also Federal Territories Minister, said there would be various exhibitions at PWTC to showcase Umno’s struggles, as well as the nation’s achievements since Umno’s birth.
He said the only place visitors were prohibited from entering was Dewan Merdeka hall, where the assembly was only for party delegates.
However, he said there would be a lot of LED screens outside the hall for visitors to watch the proceedings.
He said the public could expect to hear more debates on the upcoming general election at the assembly.
“This will be the final assembly before we face the election, thus, there will be more focus on the polls. The speeches, debates and motions presented will most likely be on the national polls.”
Tengku Adnan said the assembly would ensure that Umno showcased the best of the party to the people. “Umno is a party that ensures the rights of Malaysians are protected. We always adhere to the rules, unlike certain newly-formed and old parties.” Tengku Adnan said 63 representatives of 17 political parties from 14 countries would attend the assembly. He said 51 members of Umno Overseas Club, 350 students from 20 local universities and 50 students from private colleges would attend the assembly.
