Chew named new BNM deputy governor
KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has announced the appointment of Jessica Chew Cheng Lian as deputy governor for a three-year term effective January 1 next year.
She replaces Dr Sukhdave Singh, who will retire on December 31. Her appointment has been approved by the Finance Ministry, said Bank Negara in a statement on its website.
The central bank thanked Sukhdave for his contributions and illustrious 31-year career with the bank.
He was reappointed on April 16 last year and continued to oversee the monetary and economics sector and several departments under the organisational development sector.
Chew, who has over 20 years of experience in financial sector regulation and supervision, is currently the assistant governor responsible for the development of regulations and policies in the banking and insurance sectors.
She is also responsible for payment systems development and regulation and oversight of money services.
Chew is also a member of the bank’s Monetary Policy Committee and Financial Stability Committee, and chairman of the Finance Accreditation Agency, member of the board of directors of Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency and Credit Guarantee Corp Malaysia Bhd, and member of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors’ Technical Committee as well as serves as an adviser to the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board.
