Wendy’s opens first outlet in Johor
JOHOR BARU: Johor’s first Wendy’s restaurant opened its door to a long queue of customers making a beeline for the order counters on its first day of operation, here, yesterday.
The 3,000-sq-ft fast food restaurant, located at the fourth floor of the Paradigm Mall in Jalan Skudai, is the biggest outlet in the state and is the first Wendy’s restaurant operated in Johor by Berjaya Burger Sdn Bhd, a unit of Berjaya Corp Sdn Bhd.
Wendy’s Malaysia general manager Saw Yung Sheng said the expansion to Johor is not a new business plan for the company as there is a desire to open the restaurant outlet in the southern region even back when Wendy’s Malaysia first started its operation in 2008.
Its first outlet opened in Sunway Pyramid in Petaling Jaya.
“At the time, plans to expand the operation to regional outlets was already in the pipeline as many of outlets are located in the Klang Valley. However the expansion to Johor is only possible now as the company is optimistic about opening its business operation in the state, especially when its first flagship chain is at a strategic business location within Paradigm Mall’s food section,” he said.
The company has allocated RM5 million for its expansion investment. Six new outlets are planned for this year, including three outlets in Johor and one restaurant each in Penang, Genting Highlands and Kota Kinabalu.
Saw said the second Wendy’s restaurant in Johor will be located at the Johor Premium Outlet while the third restaurant will be at the Berjaya Waterfront shopping mall.
The back-to-back expansion of Wendy’s in Johor Baru signifies a promising and positive outcome for the company in setting its footing in the state. Halim Said
