KAMPAR: Police have arrested a married couple over the alleged murder of a woman, said to be having an affair with the husband, in Mambang Diawan here.

The body of S. Letchumi, 28, from Bandar Baru Kampar, was discovered by an elderly man in an oil palm estate in Taman Permai while he was collecting mushrooms at 2pm on Friday.

Kampar district police chief Superintendent Ng Kong Soon said police tracked down the male suspect at his house, while his wife was arrested at the district police headquarters here at midnight. Both suspects are 46.

“The post-mortem report shows that the deceased tried to fight back,” Ng said.

He said the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head from being hit repeatedly.

“We are investigating the motive for the murder. We have yet to find any weapon.”

He said the couple were being remanded for six days until Thursday.

Initial investigations revealed that Letchumi had been dead for less than 24 hours.

Her body was sent to Kampar Hospital for a post-mortem.

It was earlier reported that Letchumi’s body was found with head wounds and signs of strangulation. Police recovered her motorcycle in front of a restaurant in Bandar Baru Kampar after finding a key and helmet at the estate. Bernama
