Academics converge at research week
CYBERJAYA University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) under its Pharmacy Faculty recently organised the CyberjayaUC Research Week (CRW).
The event aimed to promote research activities and values aligned with the university thrust to enhance creativity through involvement in marketoriented research, publication and commercialisation.
Launched by CUCMS chairman Tan Sri Datuk Dr Ridzwan Abu Bakar, the event was attended by more than 100 academics and young researchers including those from other universities. The activities throughout the week include Research Colloquium, Research Enhancement Series: Grant Writing Workshop, 3-Minute Thesis Competition, Image of Research Competition, Research Talk on Nutraceutical Research and Book Forum on Translation.
CRW chairman Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Najib Mohamad Alwi pointed out in his welcome note that the initiative started for the betterment of the university’s research efforts. He also hopes that the university college would widen its horizon next year and organise more activities.
At the sideline of CRW was also the launch of the book “Mengemudi Emosi”, a Malay translation of the original book “Mind Over Mood” by Dennis Greenberger and Christine A. Padesky.
The book explains the way on how people could overcome emotional instability including the questions of depression, low self-esteem, addiction and anxiety attack.
Professor Datuk Dr Abd Rahim Mohamad led the translation effort in collaboration with Malaysian Institute of Translation & Books (ITBM) and Morne Art Gallery.
Meanwhile, ITBM chief executive officer Mohd Khair Ngadiron said that a research by World Health Organisation (WHO) stated that mental health will replace cardiovascular disease as the main factor for an individual fit to work or otherwise. “It was indeed timely for the translation of medical sciences books in this topic. We need a proactive action in ensuring the industry provide intellectual benefits for the public consumption,” he said.
At the same time, Tan Sri Datuk Dr M. Jegathesan in his keynote speech titled ‘Past, Present and Future’ spoke on digital revolution and its impact on research and using its findings in daily life.
CUCMS president Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Razak presented on Orthopaedic Innovation Research focusing on the improvement of patient care and recovery through new devices in Orthopaedic surgery. In his presentation, he stressed that the cost of these implants or devices could hinder the process of holistic treatment.
Other plenary speakers were Sunway Institute for Healthcare Development Dr Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam and International Islamic University Malaysia Dr Hazrina Ab. Hadi.
Mohd Khairul Annuar Othman and Muhammad Khalis Othman from DreamEDGE Sdn Bhd also presented their research on the Challenges in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and Digital Dental Solution Centre respectively.
