Ku Nan: MACC report will reveal truth on KL land sale
KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor is confident that DAP lawmaker Tan Kok Wai’s plans to report him to graft-busters will clear the air over the issues of land sale and affordable housing development in Kuala Lumpur.
The minister thanked Tan for informing him of the latter’s plans to lodge a report against him and his ministry with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“I believe the report to be made by Tan will reveal the truth,” said Adnan.
He said he was aware of groups that were established by certain parties to object to development projects planned by the government. He claimed that these objections were to obtain remuneration from developers. He said he had asked developers to report this to the police and MACC.
“I will not compromise when it comes to the actions of these people, who are going against the law for personal gain. Such practices are not carried out by the Barisan Nasional government.
“I am not sure how other states, which are not governed by BN and had failed to adhere to development requirements, get to continue with their projects without objections by any parties.”
Last week, Tan, who is Cheras member of parliament, claimed that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall had sold 45 parcels of land without going through an open-tender process since Tengku Adnan helmed the ministry.
Tengku Adnan challenged Tan to make his allegations clear so that he could respond with legal action. He also challenged Tan to lodge a report with MACC if the latter believed there was any abuse of power.
Tan said from the total land sold, 43 were signed, with 28 plots for the construction of the Federal Territory Affordable Housing, and the rest for the development of the 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing and 1Malaysia People’s Housing programmes. The areas sold for development involved non-feasible hawker centre reserves, squatter settlements, public housing spaces, reserved open spaces and staff quarters.
