Ex-DAP member wants party to come clean on CEC re-election
SEREMBAN: A former DAP member has urged the party to reveal who is behind the independent audit firm, Grant Thornton, responsible for overseeing and conducting the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) reelection.
S. Vijayan, who is former secretary of DAP Taman Bukit Mas branch, said following the party polls on Nov 12, the firm brought the ballot boxes into a room during the counting process, which raised doubts among members.
“It was supposed to be done in front of the members. It would have been more transparent.”
He said unlike previous years, serial numbers on polling papers were not available this year, raising the possibility of misuse.
“Most members questioned why DAP had chosen Grant Thornton instead of four other independent audit firms. Is this the first time the party is dealing with the firm?
“If a simple question like this cannot be answered by the party’s leaders, then there may be something wrong with them.”
Vijayan said DAP members wished only for a transparent election process, so they could make a decision on who were the most qualified to become the party’s leaders.
He said the election had continued to see the two Lims — DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and his father, Lim Kit Siang — maintain their positions in the party, although the majority of party members had expressed their dissatisfactions over the matter.
“It is about time they give way for other qualified members to hold the top positions.”
He also urged the Registrar of Societies to announce the status of the elections, which were held last month, as soon as possible, as the documents had already been submitted to the CEC early this month.
He said the decision was important so that the party’s logo could be used in the 14th General Election.
