Hisham launches Defence Ministry Education Blueprint
KLUANG: The Defence Ministry is committed to ensuring that the education agenda for children of members of the Malaysian Armed Forces, veterans and civilian staff is continually improved.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said the education agenda, which covered the provision of educational facilities and access to quality education, would not be carried out seasonally, but continuously.
“For this, we have launched the Defence Ministry Education Blueprint 2018-2022 today (yesterday) under the Jelajah Perkasa Perwira initiative.
“The armed forces and Defence Ministry are touched by the presence of Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak at this launch.
“This shows that the Defence Ministry is on the right track in looking after the wellbeing and welfare of the armed forces community, particularly in education.”
He said this after launching the blueprint at the 5th Battallion at the Royal Malay Regiment camp here.
Hishammuddin, who is also special functions minister, said he was proud that the blueprint — involving a collaboration with the Education, Communications and Multimedia, Rural and Regional Development and Women, Family and Community Development Ministries under the National Blue Ocean Strategy, drawn up since early last year — was ready for implementation.
He said its goals included improving educational infrastructure at armed forces camps and improving education services through welfare initiatives.
He said facilities at 38 schools at camps would be maintained and improved, while nine primary schools would be upgraded to excellent schools.
They are SK TUDM Subang in Selangor; SK Kementah in Kuala Lumpur; SK Angkatan Tentera Jalan Ru, SK Sultan Sir Ibrahim, SK Kem Iskandar and SK Tanjung Pengelih in Johor; SJK(T) Kem Askar Melayu Diraja in Negri Sembilan; SK Pangkalan Tentera Kem Batu 10 in Pahang; and SK Pangkalan TLDM in Sabah.
“This launch is historic as we have presented it in a transparent manner.
“It is our promise and commitment to members of the armed forces and their families, which we have kept.” Bernama
