‘These 2 men have no humanity left in them’

-

KOTA BARU: “What kind of human being would do this?”

Mohd Zairi Mohd Zain could not understand why the two snatch theft suspects wanted to hurt his wife.

His wife, Maria Erianty Zakaria, 40, was hospitalised after two men shoved her off her motorcycle as they snatched her handbag in Kampung Sri Rebana, Machang, on Wednesday, leaving her with a serious head injury.

Maria, a mother of five, is now in a coma at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian.

“Alhamdulillah (praise be to God), my wife was not killed in the incident.

“However, we cannot help but wonder how someone can be so cruel so as to inflict this horror upon others. No normal human being would do this.”

The incident, he said, had left the family, including their children, scarred.

“These two men had no humanity left in them. If they had a heart, they could have grabbed her handbag without pushing her down.”

Zairi, 48, said he was at home when a relative called him to inform him of the incident.

“I rushed to the hospital in Machang and saw her at the emergency ward. Due to the severity of her condition, she was transferred to HUSM last night,” he said.

Maria was on her way to an aerobics class when the incident happened.

Zairi said he and his children would pray for her recovery and planned to hold a prayer session for her.

Machang police chief Deputy Superintendent Dzulkifli Ab Ghani said the snatch theft suspects, who were brothers aged 26 and 14, had been remanded.
