Malaysian employees 4th happiest in region

KUALA LUMPUR: A J o bStreet.com survey has found that Malaysia ranks fourth out of seven countries in the region in terms of having employees who are happy at their workplaces.

The survey showed that Malaysians in the civil service, food and beverage industry, and medical sector are the happiest.

Based on a breakdown by specialisa­tion, the happiest employees are in sales (telesales/telemarket­ing), engineerin­g (electrical and civil), and healthcare (nurses and medical support staff ).

Jobstreet.com country manager Chook Yuh Yng said Malaysia scored 4.65 on a 10point scale.

“Of the 10,143 Malaysian employees surveyed, 58 per cent reported that they are happy with their jobs,” she said at the Media Coffee Talk: Job Happiness Index 2017 here on Wednesday.

The survey ranked workers from Indonesia as the happiest, with an index of 5.27, followed by Vietnam (5.19), the Philippine­s (4.97), Thailand (4.55), Hong Kong (4.45) and Singapore (4.31).

Chook said the survey showed that convenient work locations, good relationsh­ips with colleagues and strong company reputation were the top three factors that affected job happiness.

She said Malaysian employees’ top considerat­ions to increase job happiness included increase in salary and recognitio­n from their companies. Bernama
