Reunited pair roll on
MIXED doubles Chan Peng SoonGoh Liu Ying, who only reunited as a pair recently, proved they are still a force after moving into the quarterfinals of the Thailand Masters with minimum fuss yesterday.
The duo defeated Indonesian pair Yantoni Edy SaputraMarsheilla Gischa Islami 21-14, 2119 in the second round.
Liu Ying said their performance was an improvement over the first round.
“Hopefully, we will be able to maintain our momentum and make it to the semi-finals,” said Liu Ying.
Today, they will play third seeds Swan Serasinghe-Setyana Mapasa of Australia who defeated Indonesians Ronald RonaldMychelle Crhystine Bandaso (Indonesia) 21-19, 21-18.
National players Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei also moved into the quarterfinals after they downed French pair Bastian Kersaudy-Lea Palermo 21-7, 21-11.
Tang Jie-Yen Wei, playing together for the first time, will now meet Akbar Bintang Cahyono-Winny Oktavina Kandow of Indonesia.
In women’s doubles, third seeds Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean had to dig deep before overcoming Yulfira Barkah-Nitya Krishinda Maheswari 21-18, 15-21, 21-7 to move into the final-eight.
In women’s singles, Soniia Cheah defeated Thailand’s Thamolwan Poopradubsil 21-14, 21-10 to book her spot in the quarterfinals. She will face Japan’s Natsumi Shimoda for a spot in the semi-finals. Ferzalfie Fauzi
