State PKR allegedly kept in the dark
SHAH ALAM: Selangor PKR was allegedly kept in the dark over the state Pakatan Harapan’s decision to support Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as its prime ministerial candidate.
Its communications bureau chief, Hizwan Ahmad, said Wednesday’s joint statement by DAP, Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) was not issued through the proper channel.
“We take it that the statement issued was the view of the three component parties because it did not go through the Selangor Pakatan Harapan leadership headed by Datuk Seri Azmin Ali,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Azmin is Selangor menteri besar and PKR deputy president. He is also state Pakatan Harapan chairman.
Hizwan, however, said Selangor PKR respected the three parties’ decision to express their opinion on the matter.
“This is nothing new.
“This is just their reiteration of the issue.
“It is their parties’ opinion and we do not dictate nor impose our opinion on them,” he told the New Straits Times.
On Wednesday, the chairmen of Selangor DAP, PAN and PPBM signed a statement stating their full support for all of Pakatan Harapan’s declarations on Sunday.
One of the declarations included the naming of Dr Mahathir as Pakatan Harapan’s prime ministerial candidate and Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as his deputy.
Following the declaration, Selangor PKR issued a strongly-worded statement, voicing dismay over Dr Mahathir’s selection.
