KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested two senior officers of a private company over allegations of abuse of power and corruption.

Also arrested were the personal assistant of one of the officers and four people deemed “proxies”.

The senior officers were the 44-year-old deputy general manager and one of the company’s project managers, 55, in the southern region.

They were arrested at the Johor MACC headquarters yesterday at 3pm and 4pm, respectively.

The deputy general mana g e r ’ s p e rsonal assistant, 34, was detained at the same place.

The proxies were arrested between 10am and noon at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya, and its offices in Shah Alam, Klang and Melaka.

At least 15 bank accounts belonging to the officers and their family members, as well as several companies belonging to contractors, have been frozen.

In the accounts belonging to the deputy general manager and his wife, there was a total of RM2.4 million in them, believed to have been transferred by the four proxies.

Based on initial investigations, it was revealed that the two senior officers would ensure that landscaping contracts under their purview be awarded to eight companies.

These contracts, from 2013 to last year, were believed to have been worth a total of RM44 million.

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki confirmed the arrests.

He said investigators had gone to several locations, including companies contracted for the work, and seized documents to facilitate investigations.
