50,000 LED streetlights to be installed in villages
MUAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday announced an allocation of RM100 million to install 50,000 LED street lights in villages nationwide.
RM50 million is provided by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), while the government will make up the balance for the installation of the lights, which is set to benefit 2.5 million villagers.
“Felda and the village streetlights programme are close to my heart,” said Najib.
“In fact, last year, the government allocated RM100 million to install streetlights in villages nationwide.
“Streetlights in villages will make the environment brighter, especially with LED lights. So, this year, the government has allocated RM100 million for the installation of 50,000 LED streetlights nationwide.
“I hope the installation, which is expected to take between 10 and 14 months, will be sped up, if possible before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.”
Najib said this at a meet-thepeople session and handover of streetlights for Phase 8 of the programme in Padang Awam Bukit Mor, Parit Jawa, near here.
Present were his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Razali Ibrahim, who is also Muar member of parliament.
Meanwhile, Najib said Umno and Barisan Nasional had continued to prove that they not only had a systematic administration, but also possessed a clear vision of the nation’s development.
He said the opposition, including Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), was even given the freedom to form a new political party.
“If you want to form a new political party, there are no restrictions. But, it seems that the ‘parti bunga’ (PPBM) merely copied Umno’s constitution — a case of ‘cut and paste’.
“And, now, the Registry of Societies has reportedly received complaints from the party’s disgruntled grassroots. They didn’t conduct any meetings at the division or branch level, yet organised a general assembly.
“How do they expect to run the country and ensure stability when even the management of the party is in chaos? If they are unstable, how will they develop the country?
“Let’s not even talk about highspeed rail projects. It seems that even a village streetlights project is beyond their reach,” he said.
