AYEAR One pupil in Lenggeng, Negri Sembilan, suffered severe burns on her lips after her stepmother allegedly forced her to drink boiling water.

The incident occurred last Monday, a day after the biological mother of the child, took her youngest of four children back to her ex-husband’s house in Lenggeng.

She said she learnt of the incident only on Friday, when she went to pick up her daughter from her ex-husband’s sister’s house.

“When I went to pick her up to spend the weekend with me, I noticed that her lips were badly scalded.

“When I asked her what had happened, she told me that her stepmother had forced her to drink boiling water,” she said at Kuala Lumpur Hospital’s Paediatric Unit yesterday.

She has lodged a report on the alleged abuse.

The religious school teacher said she had not expected that the new wife would be so cruel.

“I am shocked at what happened. Now I understand why my third and youngest daughters refuse to and cry when it is time to return to their father’s house.”

The woman, who divorced in 2011, said she surrendered custody of her four daughters to her husband due to financial constraints, but things started to change after he remarried in December 2016.

Her daughters are aged 14, 13, 8 and 7. Three are staying with her ex-husband, while one is in a hostel, studying.

She said the child custody issue is ongoing at the syariah court, but she was worried that while waiting for a decision, something unpleasant might happen to her children.

Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharuddin Abdullah said: “The woman made a report on Saturday, alleging that her ex-husband and his new wife had abused her 7-year-old daughter.”

He said investigations had been handed over to Nilai police.
