JELI: An assistant engineer at the Public Works Department here is on cloud nine as his 8-year-old son has been chosen as National Higher Education Fund Corporation’s (PTPTN) November winner for the “Cabutan Wow! 20 Tahun” savings contest.

Nik Rokman Nik Li, 36, said he did not expect his son, Nik Muhamad Syahrulhamizan, to win RM10,000 when he invested in the 1Malaysia National Education Savings Scheme for his son’s future.

He said the announcement, which came four days ago, meant a lot to him and his family as they could use the money for his son’s education.

“I opened the education savings fund for my son when he was just 2 years old in 2012. Today, luck shone on us and we have been given an additional RM10,000 for his future education. I feel blessed,” he said, adding that he normally contributed RM150 every two months to the account.

“It was a great thing for my son to be chosen because there are about three million account holders,” said Nik Rokman at the prize-giving ceremony for the competition in SK Batu Melintang here yesterday.

The prizes were handed out by Kuala Balah assemblyman Datuk Abdul Aziz Derashid. Present was PTPTN senior general manager Abdul Ghaffar Yusop.
