LIOW: DAP CAN’T BE TRUSTED

Its shifting alliances show a self-serving leadership, says MCA president

DAP’s constant change in alliances reflects a questionable political approach and untrustworthiness. MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said such examples could be seen through DAP’s former partnership with Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, and current ties with PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and even Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Liow said such a loose grip on principles revealed a self-serving mission for power.

“We know that DAP constantly and easily changes its political partners from Hadi, to (now) Anwar and Dr Mahathir.

“This is a party without principles. They traded in the people’s trust for power,” Liow said during MCA’s 69th anniversary gathering at Wisma MCA here yesterday.

Speaking before 2,500 delegates, Liow also said DAP’s struggles were tailored to serve party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and his father, Kit Siang, and not the Chinese community.

“The Chinese community cannot depend on DAP to champion their issues. The party will do whatever it takes to hold on to power. It is not to save the country, but for Kit Siang and Guan Eng’s personal agenda.”

Liow said MCA had reinvented itself as a solid party that helped to strengthen unity in the country.

“We play an important role not only for the Chinese community, but for harmony, stability and unity among races.”

Present were Liow’s deputy Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan.

DAP, meanwhile, suffered another blow when 38 of its members from Kampar and Tapah divisions resigned over the party’s cooperation with Dr Mahathir.

The group, led by former Tapah DAP liaison committee chairman Richard Leong Soon Fatt, said the party had deviated from its struggles.

The group later joined the Kampar Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) branch, which was set up yesterday.

“We see Dr Mahathir as our enemy (for the opposition). He had sent many opposition leaders to jail, including Guan Eng and Anwar. However, after offering his apology, he was easily forgiven by the opposition leaders.

“(In exchange) for power, they forgave him, but we cannot accept this. We stand by our principles,” said Leong during the opening of the PCM’s service centre here.

Leong claimed to have dedicated “10 years of his life” to DAP.

“But after a fair and serious consideration, it is regrettable that I must leave the party. I have lost confidence in DAP’s leadership.”
